Manzini – More than 700 learners from across Eswatini gathered at William Pitcher Teachers’ College on Friday for the 2025 National STEM Expo, a showcase of innovation and skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Organised by the Eswatini Science Mathematics and Technology Association (ESMTA), the event brought together primary and high school learners, educators, policy makers, and industry players under the theme “Empowering Innovation, Igniting Young Minds.” Participants competed in quizzes, research projects, and problem-solving challenges across STEM disciplines, including robotics, coding, web development, and model-building.
Macmillan Education Eswatini sponsored the expo and used the occasion to renew its commitment to promoting science literacy. Addressing attendees, Macmillan Marketing Manager Mbuso Sacolo called on learners to see STEM as the path to their future. “With youth unemployment standing at 56%, we need to invest in skills that match where the world is going,” he said. “Pick up a book, learn to code, ask difficult questions—this is how you build a better Eswatini.”

Sacolo also applauded teachers for their efforts under challenging conditions and commended the Ministry of Education’s leadership in keeping the national curriculum aligned with the needs of the time.
ESMTA, which consists of teacher associations from science, mathematics, ICT, and design and technology, hosted the event in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training. Senior education inspectors were also present.
The learners competed for a chance to represent Eswatini at the upcoming BOLESWA International STEM Expo. Winning projects included system development, hydraulic models, math problem-solving, and science research.
Organisers say more than 5,000 learners had participated at regional level before narrowing down to the national showcase. Over 100 innovations and working models were on display.
