Mbabane: Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini revealed that the government has set up a Cabinet sub-committee mandated with the responsibility of developing an economic recovery plan post COVID-19.
Speaking during a press briefing held at the cabinet offices held today (Friday) when giving Prime Minister’s Statement on COVID-19 Response, Dlamini has announced that the COVID-19 is looking on economic recovery plans post COVID-19. Dlamini mentioned that the foundation of this plan is both the National Development Plan and the Strategic Roadmap.
The cabinet sub-committee is going to engage key stakeholders in the development of this plan, including the private sector, international cooperation partners and international financial institutions. “While we intensify the fight against COVID-19 it is important for us to ensure that the economy continues to be strong and is able to recover once the pandemic is behind us.” Said Dlamini.
Dlamini further onto to expressing the government’s confidence that if the nation stands together against this virus that threatens lives. He mentioned that if the nation can do what is required, the nation will overcome.
Dlamini mentioned that the it is important to ensure that the glaring social and economic impact caused by the onset of COVID-19 leads to the development of recovery, rehabilitation and sustainability programes aimed at addressing priority needs in education, health care, business, as well as agriculture and livelihoods, among others.
Dlamini emphasized the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices in order to contain this virus. Government will continue to encourage strict adherence to health and partial lockdown measures and improve readiness of the health system in Eswatini to be able to consider lifting the partial lockdown at the appropriate time.
Dlamini continued to thank Their Majesties for their support and counsel as we go through this difficult and challenging times.
