MBABANE – Two women were arrested for fake rape claims.
Siphesihle Nobuhle Mamba (22) of Mahlabatsini and Nokwazi Tebesutfui Nkambule (20) from Gilgal had earlier each laid claims of being gang-raped at knifepoint, The Times of Eswatini reported.
Now facing charges for breaking the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV) Act of 2018, under which they had earlier appeared in the Big Bend Magistrates Court with the accusations against Menzi Ngcamphalala (36), St. Philips, and Sibusiso Phindile Tsabedze (23), all from Phumlamacasi.
They had stated that they were brutally attacked, happening at the same time on June 20, 2024, around 4 am, inside a house in Phumlamacasi.
The women had claimed they were forced to have sexual intercourse without a condom, and that a knife was used by the two men. These reports quickly led to the men’s arrest at the time but they have since been released.
After Ngcamphalala and Tsabedze were arrested, Mamba and Nkambule reportedly told the police that they had actually made up the allegations.
Their stated reason was to ‘kubalaya’ (fix them) by opening a rape case against the men. They also admitted that they had agreed to have sex with the men after drinking alcohol.
The police quickly moved to arrest the two women charging them under Section 120 of the SODV Act of 2018 for making false statements.
They now face a fine of up to E10 000 or up to two years in prison, or both.
The two women, who pleaded guilty to the charge, appeared before Big Bend Magistrate Sabelo Khumalo. He set bail at E2 500 for each of them, while they await their trial.
