Maputo – Eswatini athletes delivered a commanding performance at the Maputo Invitational Meet on Saturday, bringing home the highest medal count of the competition and outpacing rivals Mozambique and Angola.
The event, held at Zimpeto Stadium as part of Mozambique’s 50th independence anniversary celebrations, featured 34 athletes from Eswatini, who competed across multiple track and field events.

According to Athletics Eswatini, the competition played a key role in preparing local athletes for the upcoming AUSC Region 5 U20 Games in Namibia and the CAA-SR Senior Regional Championships in Zimbabwe. The team’s strong showing has raised hopes for continued success at both international meets.
Supporters from Eswatini, some of whom funded their own travel to attend the event, were present in the stands, boosting morale and celebrating alongside the team. Athletics Eswatini expressed gratitude to these fans, as well as to the Eswatini Sports & Recreation Council and the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) for making the trip possible.
