LOS ANGELES – Robert Kelly (58) was hospitalized after allegedly overdosing anxiety medication in solitary confinement at the North Carolina prison where he is kept.
Beau Brindley, his attorney, quoted by CBS News said R. Kelly was given too much of the medication by prison staff since he was placed in solitary confinement on June 10. R. Kelly is currently serving two federal sentences for 30 years, one for sex trafficking and racketeering another for child pornography.
Brindley said after three days of being given more medication by prison staff, he lost his consciousness and was rushed to the Duke University Hospital, and after two more days under observation, he was taken back to his cell.
Brindley said the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) officers intentionally gave him an amount of medication that could have killed him.
“This was no mistake; it was a dose that jeopardized his life and nearly ended it,” Brindley is quoted by CBS News, adding that Kelly’s legal team is now seeking another emergency prison release.
It’s a third attempt for Brindley to get his client out from behind bars. Kelly’s team is hoping for pardon from the United States of America President, Donald Trump fearing for his life in federal prison.
Brindley told people: “We believe that President Trump is the only person with the courage to help us”.
“Immediately after our motion became public, Robert was thrown into solidarity confinement. He cannot make phone calls to his family; has no access to commissary and has spiders crawling over him while he tries to sleep.”
