MBABANE – Acting Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla reiterated the government’s pledge to guarantee quality education for all children during the official launch of Children’s Month held at United Nations House this week.
She praised the Ministry of Education and Training for providing textbooks to primary school pupils as part of efforts to supplement the educational grant. However, Dladla voiced concern that some headteachers are obstructing the distribution of these materials, denying children their right to education.

The event took place under the theme “Planning and Budgeting for Children’s Rights – Investing in a Better Future for Every Child,” focusing on integrating children’s welfare into national policies and budgets.
Minister of Education and Training, Owen Nxumalo, who spoke on behalf of the Acting Prime Minister, stressed that protecting and nurturing children is a shared duty between government, parents, and communities. He condemned acts of neglect, abduction, and violence against children, assuring the public that law enforcement is actively pursuing justice.
Minister Nxumalo also reminded attendees that as Eswatini reaches the midpoint of its National Plan of Action for Children (2023–2027), the month serves as a moment to renew efforts. He called for meaningful investment in children’s education, healthcare, and protection, warning that today’s budget decisions will shape the nation’s future.
