A high-level Eswatini delegation led by Minister of Education and Training, Owen Nxumalo, visited Wits University in South Africa from 28 to 30 May 2025 to advance medical education and research collaboration.
The trip, the second phase of a mentorship partnership between Eswatini Medical Christian University (EMCU) and Wits University, focused on developing a national Health and Tissue Act. This law will provide the legal and ethical framework for the use of cadavers and human tissue in education, training, and research within Eswatini.

The delegation included members from the House of Assembly and officials from the Ministries of Labour and Social Security, Health, Finance, Education and Training, and Economic Planning. Representatives from regulatory bodies like the Eswatini Medical and Dental Council and the Eswatini Higher Education Council (ESHEC), along with EMCU students, also took part.
Dr. Monica Nkwanyana, ESHEC’s Quality Assurance Manager, was among those actively involved in discussions to ensure the proposed legislation aligns with ethical standards and supports medical training in the country.
