The Kingdom of Eswatini is set to benefit from a new water infrastructure project following Taiwan’s financial support for the construction of the Sidvokodvo Dam.

The dam, funded to the tune of over E11 million by the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan), is expected to store 111,550 cubic metres of water once completed. The reservoir will support irrigation across 50 hectares and provide reliable water access for livestock and farming.

The project is located in the Ekutsimuleni area, where frequent droughts have disrupted food production and local livelihoods.

Speaking at the announcement on Friday, 16 May 2025, Minister of Agriculture Mandla Tshawuka expressed gratitude for the support, noting the dam’s potential to improve resilience against climate change and boost sustainable agriculture in the region.
