Drip Miles, a running club founded by Gcinisizwe Buthelezi—also known as Nurse WeKhantri—with Nothando Maphalala as his assistant, emerged from a dream to promote health through running. Established on February 23 of this year, the club aims to inspire community engagement in fitness activities.
The inaugural run was a nerve-wracking experience for the founder. Buthelezi mentioned that, despite minimal marketing—particularly on platforms like TikTok—the first event attracted 13 participants who collectively completed a 5km run. This turnout exceeded expectations and marked a promising start for the club.
“We have some exciting plans in the pipeline! Our vision is to grow as a community and participate in events like the upcoming Imbube Marathon as a united team in branded clothes,” Buthelezi explained. They are also exploring potential partnerships with major fitness and hydration brands. “This could elevate our presence and enhance the experience for our members,” he added.
Staying connected with Drip Miles is easy. “We have an official Instagram page (@drip.miles_) that has quickly gained nearly 100 followers in just one week, alongside a WhatsApp group where we share updates and developments,” he explained.
Mark your calendars for their next run on May 11, 2025. The meetup point is at the Total garage, right below the Hilton Inn Hotel. From there, they embark on a designated route before returning to relax over coffee. The best part? There are no subscription fees—just bring along some cash for coffee. How cool is that?
