MBABANE, April 14, 2025 — Government doctors in Eswatini have received a major digital upgrade, following the official handover of 30 Samsung tablets and a suite of networking equipment to the Ministry of Health.
The devices, including five CISCO routers, Wi-Fi adapters, and five charger stations, were donated by the Ministry of ICT through the Eswatini Communications Commission’s Universal Access Service Fund (UASF). The handover took place earlier today and is part of a broader push to strengthen the country’s digital health infrastructure.
The equipment will be distributed to five public hospitals and used by medical professionals during in-patient consultations. Officials say the tools will improve how health data is captured, shared, and used in real time, especially in remote areas where paper-based systems still dominate.
The initiative supports Eswatini’s Community Health Management Information System (CMIS+), aiming to streamline patient documentation, improve referral systems, and enhance the follow-up of patients across both urban and rural facilities.
Speaking at the event, ICT Minister Savannah Maziya said the project is focused on empowering healthcare workers to make faster and more informed decisions, ultimately ensuring that patients receive dignified and efficient care.
“This is about making sure that health records follow the patient, no matter where they are,” said Maziya. “Especially in rural areas, where the need is greatest, these tools will make a real difference.”
Health Minister Mduduzi Matsebula welcomed the support, noting that digital tools would improve adherence to treatment and strengthen the delivery of community-based healthcare services.
“We believe this initiative will bring measurable improvements in how people are linked to care and retained within the treatment system,” Matsebula said.
Mvilawemphi Dlamini, Chief Executive of ESCCOM, acknowledged the responsibility of supporting digital infrastructure in healthcare, describing the investment as critical for transforming health outcomes in the kingdom.
