The Kingdom of Eswatini is experiencing an increase in seasonal influenza cases, with health authorities urging the public to take extra precautions as the winter season sets in. The Ministry of Health has confirmed that surveillance across health facilities shows a surge in patients reporting influenza-like illnesses (ILI).
In response to the rise in cases, the Ministry has intensified its monitoring efforts and bolstered its surveillance and response measures at medical centers nationwide. Health officials have called for continued vigilance, urging the public to collaborate with health authorities to prevent further spread of the virus.
Seasonal influenza, a contagious respiratory infection caused by influenza viruses, tends to circulate more during colder months. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with underlying health conditions, are particularly at risk.
To help reduce the spread of the virus, the Ministry of Health has emphasized the importance of hygiene practices. The public is encouraged to wash hands regularly with soap and water, cover mouths and noses when coughing or sneezing, and avoid close contact with anyone showing signs of illness.
