The European Union and the Government of Eswatini have signed a groundbreaking agreement to fund renewable energy initiatives for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the country. The 15-million-Emalangeni grant, announced today, is aimed at supporting the integration of renewable energy technologies in Eswatini’s agriculture, agribusiness, and manufacturing sectors.
The agreement was formalized by Acting Permanent Secretary Sicelo Nxumalo, representing Hon. Minister HRH Prince Lonkhokhela, and Dr. Thambo Gina, Minister of Economic Planning and Development. The initiative is part of a broader effort to drive economic growth and sustainability by enabling MSMEs to adopt eco-friendly energy solutions, in line with global climate action goals.

The four-year program, which began in 2025, is a collaboration between Eswatini’s Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Funded by the European Union, the program aims to foster a greener, more prosperous future for the country by promoting renewable energy solutions among small businesses.
