Africa must have a single interconnected system – King

KIGALI, RWANDA – His Majesty King Mswati III is highly impressed with Rwanda’s progress in being one of the few African countries to have created a paperless digital society.

The King said this aligns fully with the African Union’s vision to create a single interconnected digital system that would allow for the free movement of goods and services, just like the European Union and Asian countries do.

His Majesty made this observation yesterday during a visit to Irembo, a company wholly owned by Rwanda’s government to provide digital services.

The company was established in 2014 with the idea to turn Rwanda into zero trips and a zero-paper society, by providing almost all government services on digital platforms.

Commerce, Industry and Trade Minister Manqoba Khumalo, who is part of the delegation, said what they observed was in line with the Kling’s vision of the kind of services that should be provided by the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP) and is capable of doing so.

Accompanying the king on the visit were Inkhosikati Make LaMashwama, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Pholile Shakantu and  Home Affairs Minister Princess Lindiwe, among others.
