MTN launches the Premier League of Eswatini 2022/2023 Season with a whopping E19 million cash injection

  • The sponsorship will cover the next three seasons 
  • This time MTN has increased its sponsorship by E1.5 million 

Mbabane-MTN Eswatini has again agreed to continue its marriage with the Premier League of Eswatini for the next coming three seasons. The sponsorship will run from 01 September 2022 to 30 June 2025. It will cover the 2022/2023, 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 seasons.

As part of the agreement, Eswatini MTN has the right of first refusal with respect to the renewal or extension of the sponsorship beyond the 2024/2025 season.

This time MTN has increased the sponsorship by 1.5 million Emalangeni from the previous one. MTN has undertaken a basic sponsorship of E6.5 million for each football season to be adjusted in accordance with applicable inflation rates during the term of the contract.

These was communicated by MTN CEO Wandile Mntshali during the launch of the 2022-2023 season at Sigwaca House in Mbabane where a replica cheque of E19.5 million was presented to the Premier League of Eswatini. Mntshali when presenting the sponsorship said, no one can separate MTN Eswatini with football. “MTN is committed for the next three season and from this coming season MTN would like that tickets be sold through the MTN Mobile Money (Momo).” The launch was well attended and among the guests was the Minister of Sports, Hon Madze Bulunga.

Eswatini MTN and the PLE have agreed to enable Eswatini MTN to evaluate the impact of the sponsorship at the end of the term to present a business case to enable renewal. MTN also advised the PLE to hire a Marketing Officer who will drive the marketing side of football. The company also allocated E160,000 to the marketing department of the PLE. Mark Carmichael who is the Charman of the PLE said it was not an easy to acquire the sponsorship. The Premier League of Eswatini also announced the date of the kick off for the 2022/2023 season which is the 01 of October 2022.
