SMVA Fund CEO David Myenio stated this was the second Ambulance to be donated by the fund to the Ministry of Health EPR unit. The ambulance is a large Mercedes Benz Sprinter vehicle that has the capacity to carry more than one patient at a time is worth E2.4 million. Myeni said this was part of their ongoing partnership with the Ministry of health EPR Unit. He highlighted that early this year the fund signed a memorandum of understanding with the EPR Unit, which aims to put to action the Fund’s proactive seamless strategy.

The Partnership of SMVA Funs and the Ministry of health EPR Unit saw the launch of the Road traffic accident call center and its relocation to the SMVA Fund headquarters. It also saw the donation of the initial ambulance which was part of the SMVA Fund’s proactive seamless strategy.

This now makes SMVA Fund to be involved from the time of the accident occurrence to the evacuation of the patient from the accident scene and throughout the whole post crush value chain which involves the treatment, rehabilitation, and compensation of accident victims.

In the past, the Fund used to wait for the accident victims to come to the fund to register claims on average six months after the accident occurrence. With the new strategy, MVA Fund now responds to accidents as they happen and starts taking care of the victims.

According to MVA Fund, the objective is to and over at least six Ambulances to the EPR unit to be used solely for road crushes.
