Mbabane: Despite fears of the cyclone, Eswatini is on high alert and monitoring the situation.
These were sentiments shared by the Director of Eswatini Meteorological Service Duduzile Nhlengethwa-Masina in a telephone interview with the Independent News.
Hlengetfwa said they were aware of the tropical cyclone Eloise which is expected to come to Eswatini. She said they were monitoring the situation closely and were ready to update EmaSwati on the situation.
International forecasters has warned people from Madagascar, Mozambique and Eswatini to monitor the developments of the cyclone which is expected to hit the ground from 16-25 January 2021.
According to a cyclone, Hurricane, Typhoon Alerts Facebook page, the cyclone has possible land fall along the Mozambique coastline on January 24, 2021.
Impacts of the cyclone in Eswatini are expected on January 25, 2021, and they include strong tropical squalls, a flood threat, and winds of 50-65 km/h.
Impacts on the northeast Madagascar coastline with include a possible landfall, strong tropical squalls, a significant inland flood threat and winds of 90-115 km/h.
With the threats of the cyclone, people were urged to take precautions as needed to protect life and property.
