Mbabane- Two Eskhunyane High School male teachers are under investigation by the Ministry of Education following strings of sex allegations with female pupils.
Eskhunyane High School is near Balekane Correctional Facility under the Hhohho region.
Rumours of the sex allegations by the male teachers are said to have been happening for quite some time and has been bothering the community around the school. Names of the alleged sexual perpetrators are known to this publication but cant be published yet for legal reasons.
According to the Teaching Service Act, teachers are not supposed to have a romantic relationship with pupils. Committing such an offence may lead to dismissal after appearing before the Teaching Service Commission(TSC).
It is alleged that the school has been previously visited by the Mbabane Regional Education Office(REO) to verity the rumours that were spreading about the school. The REO team that is alleged to have initially visited the school includes Deputy Regional Education Officer and Hhohho high school Inspector.
Head teacher of the school Justice Makhanya confirmed the visitation by the Ministry after the spread of the pupil-teacher relationship rumours.
“It’s true that there has been such rumours at the school and around the community, but its not good for me to comment on the issue. It is best that you contact the ministry.” Makhanya confirmed.
Ministry of Education Under Secretary Lungelo Nhlengetfwa admitted that the school has been rocked by sex scandal which attracted the ministry’s attention. Nhlengetfwa said the ministry has a zero tolerance of such behaviour by teachers and those found to have committed this offence will be dismissed from the profession without warning.
“We currently have two cases of pupil-teacher relationship at that school, following the headteacher’s investigation. The headteacher brought his investigation findings to us and we then wrote letters to the two teachers, to give their side of the story before the commission. We are taking sexual offences very seriously and if these teachers are found guilty, they will be dismissed. There are too many teachers out there who are looking for jobs, so those who handle themselves inappropriately shall be easily replaced.”Nhlengetfwa explained.
Nhlengetfwa said the teachers are expected to respond to the letters summoned by the ministry on Monday 19 October 2026. He added that it is possible that more teachers may be exposed as the investigation continues.
A parent at the school who preferred anonymity said such act by teachers at the school has been happening for a long time and has been affecting the school’s performance. The parent mentioned that it’s unfortunate that the ministry only manage to deal with only two yet most of the male teachers have sexual relationships with the pupils.
“We have been reporting these teachers’ behavior to the school authorities and the ministry too many times but nothing was done. Most of the male teachers are doing it and in public. We are happy that now the ministry is finally doing something about it. Maybe even the others will now refrain from this bad habit.” The parent said.
Nkambeni Umphakatsi member who preferred to be called Babe Ndwandwe said this is an old issue at the school and it has been bothering them. Ndwandwe said many things has happened in the school by teachers such that some teachers were transferred to other schools.
