Nhlangano – A 39-year-old Khoza man died after allegedly sustaining a head injury while fleeing from an unidentified man during an attempted borehole pump theft at Nsongweni.
Nhlangano police are investigating the incident after the man collapsed and died inside a house shortly after allegedly returning from the scene of the attempted theft.
According to police, the deceased had earlier gone to Nsongweni with an accomplice to steal a borehole pump.
While the two were allegedly committing the offence, they were disturbed by an unidentified man who reportedly gave chase after they fled in different directions.
The man is now a person of interest in the investigation, as police believe he may have crucial information that could assist in establishing what happened.
Police said the man was heard raising an alarm as he pursued the two suspects.
A few minutes later, the deceased reportedly stumbled into the house of his accomplice, weak and bleeding heavily from a head injury.
Police suspect that he may have been struck with a hard object.
The accomplice had also returned to the house after allegedly being chased and was already there when the deceased arrived.
The deceased was reportedly unable to speak before collapsing.
The accomplice then contacted the deceased’s brother, who arrived at the house and immediately alerted Nhlangano police.
Police transported the injured man to Nhlangano Health Centre, where he was certified dead by a medical practitioner.
