Mbabane: Local Gospel artist Thabile Myeni’s star continues to rise.
Myeni is the only LiSwati with a nomination in this year’s SABC Crown Gospel Awards. Her name was called out during the award’s nomination announcement by the Gospel Awards executive producer Zanele Mobakazi on Tuesday in Durban. Myeni will compete for the Best of Africa Award, which is the very same award that was once competed for by Nduduzo Matse in 2017, a local artist as well.
Myeni revealed her nomination on Tuesday evening through her official facebook page where she also encouraged people to download her song “Sizobizwa Masinyane” which is the song that got her nominated. She was nominated along with other gospel artists like David Dayo from Nigeria, Janet Manyowa from Zimbabwe and the various gospel artists who were partaking in the song entitled Heal our Land.
When announcing the nominees Mbokazi said the awards are not only about the artist’s voice or anything else but it is about the message conveyed through the music. She urged artist to work hard campaigning for votes as they will be the one that determines the winners. “Do not complain, compete”
This year’s awards will be themed “Still we praise.”
Association of Christian Artists in Swaziland (ACASWA)’s Phetsile Masilela congratulated Myeni for her nomination on the Crown Gospel Awards. She said they were happy for Myeni and this nomination is quite big so it means growth for the artist and the gospel fraternity as well. Masilela said being nominated in the South African awards is huge and so they are proud of Myeni for being the only Liswati to be nominated.
Masilela said they are hoping that she will come back with the award, even if she does not it will still be an honour that she was nominated. She added that she also hope Myeni will be able to perform during the awards.
Meanwhile, the awards will be recorded on November 13and then they will be broadcasted live on SABC on November 29. Worth noting is that during the live recording of the awards 100 people will be allowed to witness the awards live having paid tickets that will cost E1 495.
