Mbabane- Prime Minister Russell Dlamini has declared that Eswatini is seeking to unlock a new phase of cooperation with Taiwan, with talks expected to focus on expanding trade and investment, accelerating technology and innovation partnerships, and strengthening collaboration in agriculture, healthcare and skills development.
The Premier made the remarks upon his arrival at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on Monday ahead of a series of high-level engagements, including bilateral talks with President Lai Ching-te and participation in the Ketagelan Forum. The PM is representing His Majesty King MswatiIII at the Ketagelan Forum: 2026 Indo- Pacific Security Dialoque in Taipei.
Dlamini said his visit was intended to build on the strong diplomatic relations between the two countries by identifying new areas of collaboration that would support Eswatini’s long-term economic transformation.
“During my visit, I look forward to productive engagements with President Lai and other leaders of Taiwan as we explore new opportunities to deepen our strategic partnership, expand trade and investment, strengthen technology and innovation cooperation, advance health and agricultural development, and promote skills transfer for sustainable and inclusive economic growth,” he said.
He said the visit reaffirmed Eswatini’s commitment to its enduring partnership with Taiwan, which he described as one founded on shared values, mutual respect and a common desire to improve the livelihoods of citizens in both countries.
The Premier said the Kingdom remained appreciative of Taiwan’s continued support to Eswatini’s development agenda, noting that the Asian nation had made significant contributions in critical sectors such as health, agriculture, education, technology, infrastructure and private sector development.
“Our partnership is one of principle and progress, one that has endured the test of time and continues to be strengthened by mutual respect, shared values and a common commitment to improving the lives of our people,” Dlamini said.
He expressed confidence that discussions during the visit would further strengthen bilateral relations and pave the way for cooperation that delivers tangible benefits for future generations.
Dlamini is also expected to participate in the Ketagelan Forum, where he will present Eswatini’s perspectives on regional and global issues alongside international leaders and policymakers.
The Prime Minister conveyed warm greetings from His Majesty King Mswati III to President Lai Ching-te and the people of Taiwan, while expressing appreciation for the warm reception accorded to the Eswatini delegation upon arrival.
Eswatini and Taiwan have maintained diplomatic relations for more than five decades, with Taiwan remaining one of the Kingdom’s key development partners. Over the years, the partnership has supported numerous initiatives in agriculture, health, education, infrastructure, technology and economic development. Government now hopes the Prime Minister’s visit will open another chapter in the relationship by translating longstanding diplomatic ties into new economic and investment opportunities for the Kingdom.
