Matsapha – The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) celebrated 119 years of policing during the 23rd Annual Police Day celebrations held at the Matsapha Police Academy, with His Majesty King Mswati III and Her Majesty Indlovukazi among the dignitaries attending the event.
The ceremony brought together government officials, traditional leaders, members of Parliament, diplomats, regional authorities, visiting police representatives and all ranks of the police service to recognise the force’s long history of serving the Kingdom.
Speaking during the event, Prime Minister Russel Mmiso Dlamini, the government representative congratulated REPS for its years of dedicated service and conveyed appreciation for the role played by officers in maintaining peace and security in the country.
The representative said the occasion was made special by the presence of Their Majesties as the nation continues to celebrate His Majesty King Mswati III’s 40th year of reign and leadership.
Before inviting His Majesty the King to address the gathering, the government representative extended greetings to Their Majesties, members of the Royal family, Cabinet Ministers, the Chief Justice, Parliament presiding officers, chiefs, councilors, members of the diplomatic corps, visiting police chiefs and the entire police service.
The celebrations featured a colourful parade, with various units of REPS showcasing their discipline, skills and capabilities through march pasts and drill displays.
The event was held under the theme, “Policing with Agape Love,” as the police service reflected on its history and its continued responsibility of serving communities across the Kingdom.
The Royal Eswatini Police Service was established in 1907 and has grown over the years to include specialised units responsible for responding to different policing needs.
The annual Police Day celebrations provide an opportunity for the service to recognise its officers and showcase its work to the public.
