Mbabane – Eswatini’s annual inflation rate slowed to 2.6 per cent in June, the lowest level recorded in the past 12 months, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by the Central Statistical Office (CSO).
The June figure was down from 2.7 per cent in May and 2.9 per cent recorded during the same month last year, reflecting a slower pace in the rise of consumer prices.
The report shows that goods recorded an annual inflation rate of 3.1 per cent, while services stood at 1.8 per cent.
On a monthly basis, inflation was recorded at 0.1 per cent, with price decreases recorded in Restaurants and Hotels, Transport, and Housing and Utilities.
Despite the slower inflation, the Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels division remained the largest contributor to headline inflation, accounting for 1.7 percentage points. Transport contributed 0.7 percentage points, while Clothing and Footwear added 0.3 percentage points.
The report also showed that annual inflation in Restaurants and Hotels increased to 2.8 per cent, while Transport rose to 4.2 per cent. Inflation for Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics slowed to 3.2 per cent.
