MBABANE – The Government of Eswatini has urged citizens living, working, studying, visiting, or travelling through South Africa to maintain regular contact with the Kingdom’s diplomatic missions and seek assistance through official consular channels whenever they encounter challenges abroad.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reaffirmed its commitment to protecting and promoting the welfare of Emaswati residing outside the country, particularly those in neighbouring South Africa.
The ministry said the Kingdom’s diplomatic missions in Pretoria and Johannesburg remain available to assist citizens on a wide range of matters, including emergencies, documentation, welfare concerns and other consular issues.
“The Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini remains committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its citizens abroad,” the ministry stated.
Authorities encouraged Emaswati to ensure they have the contact details of the diplomatic mission nearest to them and to promptly report any matter requiring the attention or assistance of government representatives.
The ministry further cautioned citizens against relying on individuals or groups claiming to represent or speak on behalf of Emaswati in South Africa.
According to the statement, some individuals present themselves as representatives capable of resolving challenges faced by Emaswati, despite not having any official mandate from the government.
The warning comes amid growing concerns about the vulnerability of citizens living abroad, who may at times require assistance relating to legal, immigration, welfare or documentation matters.
“Emaswati are encouraged to seek assistance whenever they encounter challenges requiring consular support,” the ministry said.
To facilitate access to assistance, the ministry provided contact details for officials stationed at Eswatini’s diplomatic missions in South Africa.
At the High Commission in Pretoria, citizens may contact Nombuso Dlamini on +27 60 336 1519 or Sonnyboy Sangweni on +27 61 528 1154.
At the Consulate in Johannesburg, assistance is available through Portia Dlamini on +27 67 549 0578 and Sihle Mlangeni on +27 63 199 5828.
South Africa remains home to thousands of Emaswati, including students, professionals, business people and migrant workers.
The country is also a key transit route for citizens travelling to other destinations. The ministry said its latest notice forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure that Emaswati abroad have access to reliable support and accurate information through official government structures.
It reiterated that the welfare and interests of Emaswati remain a priority, regardless of where they reside.
“The Ministry remains committed to supporting the welfare and interests of Emaswati wherever they may be,” reads the statement.
