Ezulwini – Prime Minister Russell Dlamini has returned to Eswatini after representing His Majesty King Mswati III at the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and the 4th Annual Global Council for Political Renewal (GCPR) in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Prime Minister’s delegation included Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Pholile Shakantu and Minister of Labour and Social Security Phila Buthelezi. They engaged in high-level discussions with fellow African leaders on issues affecting the continent.
Upon his return, Prime Minister Dlamini addressed the pending electricity tariff increase, which was recently approved by the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA). “A statement will soon be issued regarding the recently implemented electricity tariff increase of over 13 per cent, which is set to take effect on April 1,” he said.
Straight from the airport, the Prime Minister joined Cabinet ministers at the Royal Villas for the first Cabinet retreat of the year. The retreat is expected to focus on government priorities and the roadmap for the year ahead.
During the session, Dlamini highlighted government efforts in human capital development. “The government has made a significant investment in human capital, expanding access to education, skills development and social mobility,” he said. He also noted that various ministries have adhered to His Majesty King Mswati III’s call for Nkwe, adding that the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office constructed houses for the underprivileged last year, while the Ministry of Public Works and Transport continues to upgrade national infrastructure.
