Rabat – Senegal booked their place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final after a 1-0 win over Egypt at Ibn Batouta Stadium on Wednesday. Sadio Mané scored the decisive goal in the 78th minute, firing a low shot from outside the box into the bottom left corner, breaking the deadlock against a compact Egyptian defence.
The Lions of Teranga dominated possession throughout, controlling 63% of the ball and registering 12 shots compared to Egypt’s two. Egypt struggled to mount any serious attacks and only managed their first shot on target in the 82nd minute, five minutes after falling behind.
Coach Pape Thiaw’s side displayed patience and control, frustrating Egypt’s efforts to counter. Senegal now await the winner of tonight’s Morocco versus Nigeria match, with the final scheduled for Sunday. The team seeks its second AFCON title after winning the tournament in 2021.
Egypt, missing out on a ninth final, will face the third-place play-off on Saturday. Their elimination continues a run of five straight knockout-stage exits at AFCON, despite Mohamed Salah’s presence in the squad.
