Mbabane – World Vision Southern Africa’s Regional Leader, Matthew Pickard, paid a courtesy visit to Eswatini’s Prime Minister, His Excellency Russell Dlamini, at the Cabinet offices in Mbabane on Friday. Pickard was accompanied by World Vision Eswatini’s National Director, Amos Zaindi, Programme Development, Evidence & Impact Lead, Humble Nxumalo, and Board Member, Mbuso Dlamini.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for World Vision’s collaboration with the government, particularly in raising resources for the country’s efforts to achieve universal water service coverage. “The impact of this partnership is huge, and Government will also ensure the availability of resources for the project,” said the Prime Minister. He stressed the importance of maintaining momentum and ensuring the sustainability of the water systems being implemented.
Pickard reassured the Prime Minister of World Vision’s dedication to accelerating progress, aligning with the government’s approach to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #6, which calls for universal access to clean water and sanitation by 2030. “This is a very exciting collaboration,” Pickard remarked, noting the interest across the World Vision partnership in the success of the project, which could serve as a model for other countries.
The discussion also focused on the need for agility and rapid implementation to address pressing social challenges. The Prime Minister emphasized the urgency of the project, stating, “We want to do big things and do them fast because social ills are overtaking us since we are moving slowly.” He expressed confidence that the partnership with World Vision would help meet the ambitious goal of improving service delivery to Emaswati, with the government and other partners working toward the same objective.
