Mbabane – The newly launched United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (CF) 2026–2030 for Eswatini has been alloated a 68% financial increment for the next five years of implementation.

The total budget for the new CF, guinding the UN’s work in Eswatini, is estimated at E3.2 billion (approximately $187.4 million), up from E1.9 billion allocated in the the previous 2021–2025 framework.

According to UN resident coordinator, George Wachira, the CF’s success will depend on the strength of partnerships across government, development partners, civil society, the private sector, and communities, and its implementation will integrate a strong focus on the principle of Leaving No One Behind (LNOB).

Wachira said the new framework introduces a streamlined structure and a substantial increase in committed resources and prioritises two core strategic areas, reduced from the three priority areas of the preceding one.

The two new Strategic Priorities are Inclusive Social Well-being and Shared and Sustainable Prosperity. These priorities are designed to achieve two corresponding outcomes by 2030. The first outcome, Resilient, and Quality Services, aims for people in Eswatini to benefit from efficient and resilient systems that deliver quality services, particularly for vulnerable people. The second, Inclusive Growth and Livelihoods, seeks to strengthen national systems that promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth and expanded livelihoods, especially for youth and vulnerable populations.

Structurally, the CF 2026–2030 represents a significant consolidation compared to the 2021–2025 framework. The new CF moves from three priority areas to two, reduces the number of outcomes from four to two, and cuts the total number of outputs from 16 to nine.

Similarly, the number of Results Groups has been halved from four to two, and the subgroups from 12 to five. This shift is intended to create fewer, more strategic joint programmes, reinforcing alignment with national planning frameworks such as the National Development Plan (NDP) 2023/24 – 2027/28.
