Mbabane – Former Mbabane Highlanders managing director Chief Ally Kgomongwe has appealed to a faction within the club to stop actions that could destabilise the team, saying he will not interfere in internal disputes.
The group, reportedly made up of former officials and supporters, has been publicly protesting and expressing dissatisfaction with the club’s current leadership. Over the weekend, they sent a letter to Kgomongwe requesting a meeting in Pretoria and seeking his guidance.
“Chief, please give us your ears. We are your children. There is no more Mbabane Highlanders as we knew it. We believe you are the only person who can save us now,” the faction wrote, while distancing themselves from the club’s AM wing.
Kgomongwe rejected the request, noting that the same individuals had played a role in his removal in the past. He reiterated his support for the current leadership under the club president and condemned the faction’s public demonstrations.
“These are the same people who toppled me and now they want me to join their mission. I cannot do that. Highlanders people must be grateful and stop creating division, because it doesn’t help anyone,” he said.
The unrest has escalated in recent weeks, with faction members previously seen waving placards at matches and reportedly celebrating Highlanders’ recent 0-1 loss to Sisonkhe FC at Mavuso Sports Centre.
