Mbabane – The National Disaster Management Agency has been deployed across the country to assess communities affected by heavy rains and strong winds that began over the past weekend.
Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla said Tuesday that NDMA teams are working with local authorities and humanitarian partners to evaluate the damage and identify urgent needs. Several low-lying areas have reported flooded homes, disrupted roads, and power outages. Relief efforts will begin once weather conditions allow safe access for response teams.
“We are prioritising vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly and persons with disabilities,” Dladla said. She urged residents to report incidents so that assistance can be coordinated quickly.
The Deputy Prime Minister warned that rivers, streams, and major dams remain dangerously full, increasing the risk of drowning. “Do not attempt to cross flooded rivers or submerged bridges whether on foot or by vehicle. Your safety is our priority,” she added.
Citizens can report emergencies or request help through the NDMA WhatsApp line at 7900 0112 or by calling 112 or 2409 5500.
