Mbabane – The National Advisory Council of Persons with Disabilities Chairperson Dr Ngcebo Mbuli has disclosed that at least three disability music and arts festival winners are featured to perform at the upcoming national gospel music awards 2025 next month.
Sabelo Matse, Siyabonga ‘Bayas’ Mdluli and Dumisa Hynd MsweIi who are persons with disabilities earned their spots at the recent disability music and arts festival over the weekend held at The Luke Commission Events Centre, winning in premium segments.
After being discovered in the festival, which not only celebrated their unique gifts but opened doors for them to other stages, Mbuli said they will repeat their performances at the gospel awards scheduled for November 8 at Esibayeni Lodge in Matsapha, in a non-discriminatory fashion.
These developments have been welcomed.
Speaking on behalf of the trio, the Federation of Organisations of the Disabled in Swaziland (FODSWA) President Bongani Makama expressed immense pride in the artists and the festival that unlocked their potential, further appreciating the inclusivity.
“This achievement proves that people with disabilities are talented across various fields, including secular music, gospel, poetry, visual arts and dance,” said Makama.
“They have demonstrated that they deserve to be included in all aspects of society, social, economic, political and beyond,” he said, adding that he hoped that even bigger opportunities could await these artists.
Makama called for policy reforms to promote inclusivity including enabling persons with disabilities to enrol in institutions that accommodate their needs.
“Their success is not by favour, but by merit. They have proven their worth and deserve continuous support. It is crucial for these artists to be properly equipped so that they can compete on equal footing, despite any challenges they may face,” Makama added.
He extended gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister, Thulisile Dladla who initiated the inaugural disability music and arts festival.
