MANZINI — The 2024/25 season of the Manzini Regional Football Association was marred by referee corruption and a shortage of playing venues, according to the MRFA’s latest Activity Report.
The report revealed that poor officiating affected the outcome of matches, with some games decided by referees rather than players. Investigations traced the bribery to the clubs themselves, casting a shadow over the integrity of the competitions.
Instances of clubs using fake players’ cards were also documented, a practice the MRFA said damages the football brand in the region.
Logistical challenges compounded the problems, with the report noting a critical shortage of playing grounds across all leagues. Fixture congestion became a recurring issue as the association struggled to complete schedules set by the Eswatini Football Association, forcing some early weekend matches that frustrated teams.
The MRFA called on all clubs to stop engaging in corrupt practices and work toward restoring fairness in Manzini’s football leagues.
