Mbabane – Eswatini entrepreneur Wezizwe Ginindza, founder and CEO of My Coils, is transforming the local beauty industry with her natural hair care brand that focuses on afro-textured hair. Ginindza spoke to Siphiwo Lushaba during the latest episode of The Marketplace, where she shared insights from her journey, business growth, and lessons for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Born and raised in the Kingdom of Eswatini, Ginindza’s entrepreneurial journey formally began in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, although her interest in business started in her early teens. My Coils produces natural hair care products designed to nurture and repair coily hair while educating consumers on proper hair management.

“My passion was understanding African hair textures and creating products that work effectively using natural ingredients,” Ginindza said. She described her brand as more than just a product line, with a strong focus on education, offering guidance on hair care through Instagram, masterclasses, and a recently launched YouTube channel.

Customer response has been overwhelmingly positive, with Ginindza noting feedback from women in both corporate and casual settings. Constructive criticism has helped refine her formulations, while success stories, including hair regrowth for women with alopecia, have reinforced the impact of her work.

Ginindza credits her growth to international exposure through the Mandela Washington Fellowship in 2023, where she learned strategic business management, pitch development, and networking with fellow African and American entrepreneurs. “The fellowship taught me to think differently, operate professionally, and leverage networks to grow the business,” she explained.

Scaling remains Ginindza’s main challenge, as she works toward moving from a home-based operation to a manufacturing facility capable of meeting export standards. She relies on a network of supportive entrepreneurs, family, and institutions like the Eswatini National Industrial Development Corporation to navigate these challenges.

With a background in industrial and economic sociology, Ginindza applied academic insights on supply chains and value creation to establish her business framework. Looking ahead, she plans to expand her product line, develop sustainable operations, and continue providing educational platforms for natural hair care enthusiasts.

Ginindza encourages young entrepreneurs to start with clarity of purpose while remaining flexible. “Entrepreneurship will test both your business and you personally. Adaptability is key,” she said, stressing that growth comes from consistent effort, learning, and resilience.
