Johannesburg- JSE-listed retail giant Pepkor has received approval from the Competition Commission to acquire five well-known retail store brands, Legit, Style, Boardmans, Swagga, and Beaver Canoe, in a cash transaction valued at R1.9 billion.
The acquisition expands Pepkor’s already extensive retail portfolio, which includes household names such as PEP, Ackermans, Shoe City, Dunns, Tekkie Town, Refinery, S.P.C.C, CODE, Bradlows, Rochester, Sleepmasters, Incredible Connection, HiFi Corp, and BUCO.
The deal strengthens Pepkor’s position in the South African retail market, enabling the group to reach more consumers across different segments while consolidating its footprint in the clothing, footwear, and lifestyle retail sectors.
Industry analysts say the acquisition is part of Pepkor’s ongoing strategy to diversify its offerings and leverage its large distribution network to maximize efficiencies across its brands.
The five newly acquired stores will be integrated into Pepkor’s operations, with the group expected to maintain the brands’ existing identities while optimizing retail operations for growth and profitability.
