MATSAPHA – Officers from His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) are heading to Namibia with one goal: to make Eswatini proud at the SADC Corrections, Prisons and Penitentiary Services Sports and Cultural Games.
The biennial regional competition, which brings together correctional services from Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states, will take place from August 4 to 8 in Windhoek. The games serve as a platform to promote health among officers, foster regional collaboration, and share best practices in correctional management.
During a send-off ceremony held at the Staff College in Matsapha on Thursday, Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini urged the team to carry the nation’s hopes with pride and dignity. She reminded them of the department’s values and the responsibility they bear in representing Eswatini on an international stage.
HMCS will compete in football, netball, volleyball, athletics, darts, and tug-of-war. Team members say they are committed to putting up a strong performance and bringing home medals.
The delegation will be led by Commissioner Ephraem Thwala. The Commissioner General is also expected to attend the games as the Regional Vice Chairperson of the African Correctional Services Association (ACSA).
