Indianapolis – A 55-year-old man from Texas has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for stalking and harassing WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark, who plays for the Indiana Fever.
Michael Lewis from Denton, Texas, appeared in a Marion County court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to one felony count of stalking and one misdemeanor count of harassment. He reached a plea deal with prosecutors and was given credit for time already served.
The court heard that Lewis believed he was in an “imaginary relationship” with Clark. Between 12 December 2024 and 11 January 2025, he sent hundreds of threatening and sexually explicit messages to her, prompting a federal investigation.
The FBI tracked Lewis’ online activity to a hotel in downtown Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Public Library. When police conducted a welfare check, Lewis confessed he had travelled to the city on vacation and claimed to be involved with Clark.
He has now been banned from attending any Indiana Fever or Indiana Pacers events, including at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Hinkle Fieldhouse. He is also prohibited from having any contact with Clark and will not be allowed access to the internet during his incarceration.
During the hearing, Lewis made bizarre doomsday claims in court. He has been recommended for mental health treatment.
Clark, who was the top pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, has only featured in 13 games this season due to ongoing groin injuries. She is currently recovering from a strained right groin.
