JOHANNESBURG – Businessman Vusi “Cat” Matlala appeared in court on Friday alongside his wife, Tsakani, as his attempted murder trial was postponed to next month following a request from his legal team for full access to state evidence.

The couple, joined by two co-accused, face charges relating to a drive-by shooting targeting actress Tebogo Thobejane in Sandton in October 2023. Thobejane was unharmed, but her companion sustained serious injuries and was hospitalised for over a month.

Matlala entered the courtroom from the holding cells in leg irons, sporting a clean-shaven look and formal attire. His wife, who was granted bail earlier, arrived in a tailored grey dress and oversized spectacles.

There was a strong police presence at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, where the defence requested more time to examine undisclosed sections of the prosecution’s evidence.
