LONDON – World No. 2 Iga Swiatek stormed into her first Wimbledon final on Thursday after dismantling Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic 6–2, 6–0 on Centre Court.
The 23-year-old needed less than an hour to secure her sixth Grand Slam final appearance and will face American Amanda Anisimova, who earlier shocked top seed Aryna Sabalenka.
“I felt just good and in the zone,” Swiatek said after her dominant display. “I was focused from the beginning till the end.”
Better known for her clay-court dominance, Swiatek has made significant strides on grass this season. She dictated play from the opening game, holding serve with ease and breaking Bencic early to race to a 3–0 lead.
Play was briefly halted for nine minutes due to a heat-related spectator incident, but Swiatek didn’t skip a beat. She closed out the match with an ace and didn’t face a single break point throughout.
Bencic, ranked 489 after returning to the tour from maternity leave, had been one of the tournament’s surprise packages. But her dream run ended under the weight of Swiatek’s relentless pressure.
The Polish star, already a four-time French Open winner and US Open champion, now has a shot at adding the sport’s most iconic trophy to her growing resume.
