NEW YORK – Paris Saint-Germain handed Real Madrid a humiliating 4-0 defeat in the Club World Cup semi-final at the MetLife Stadium, sending a clear signal of their title ambitions ahead of the final clash with Chelsea.
The French side wasted no time asserting dominance, netting three goals within the first 30 minutes. Fabián Ruiz struck twice, opening the scoring in the 6th minute after a blunder by Raúl Asencio, and slotting in a second later in the half. Ousmane Dembélé added a sharp finish in the 9th minute, while Gonçalo Ramos sealed the rout with a late goal in the 87th.
Real Madrid struggled without regular defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, leaving goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois exposed as PSG tore through their backline. A costly miss by Antonio Rüdiger led to PSG’s second goal, and by the ninth minute, the LaLiga champions were already chasing shadows.
Former PSG star Kylian Mbappé, now wearing Madrid colours, watched from the pitch as his old team dismantled his new one. Luis Enrique’s side looked sharper, faster, and more coordinated throughout, applying relentless pressure and fluid attacking play.
Madrid coach Xabi Alonso admitted after the match that his side’s formation adjustments and mistakes proved costly. PSG, on the other hand, played with such precision and hunger that Madrid never found a foothold.
