GERMANY – Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany was left visibly shaken after star forward Jamal Musiala suffered a gruesome ankle injury during their Club World Cup quarterfinal clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.

The 22-year-old Germany international broke and dislocated his ankle following a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the first half of the match. Musiala was attempting to challenge for the ball when his leg twisted unnaturally under the weight of the goalkeeper. His screams echoed around the stadium as players from both teams turned away in shock, some with their hands over their faces.

Bayern eventually lost the match 2–0, but Kompany said the result meant little compared to the injury sustained by one of the squad’s most gifted players.

“I’ve rarely been so angry at halftime,” Kompany told reporters. “Not at my players, but at what happened. Jamal had just returned from another injury. He lives for this game.”

Musiala, who made his Bayern debut at 17, has become one of the club’s most important players, collecting five Bundesliga titles, three German Cups, and a Champions League title. He was also named German national team Player of the Year in 2024.

FC Bayern board member Max Eberl described the injury as a major blow for the club, both technically and emotionally.

“He had just come back, and now he’s out again. He’s a central figure in our team and we’ll give him everything he needs. We’re already looking forward to his return.”
