Rehabilitation of the damaged drainage structure at KaKholwane is underway, with 10% of the work already completed, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MoPWT).
The project, located in Nkwene Inkhundla, is intended to restore road access across the Mkhondvo River for communities including KaKholwane, Ekuphumuleni, Baleni, Buseleni, Mandulo, and Tholulwazi.
Heavy rains in January this year washed away several structures, leaving residents cut off and transport routes disrupted. The damage to key drainage points led to a surge in public concern over safety and accessibility in rural areas.
The ministry has since launched a coordinated effort to repair all compromised infrastructure, beginning with the worst-hit zones like KaKholwane.
