Malkerns – More than 600 high school students from across Eswatini gathered at House on Fire in Malkerns on 29 May for the annual EU Bushfire Schools Festival. The event, held ahead of the internationally recognised MTN Bushfire Festival, focused on showcasing youth creativity through song, dance, poetry, and other art forms under the theme “Art as the driver in the pursuit of sustainability.”

EU Ambassador to Eswatini, Karsten Mecklenburg, opened the festival, noting that it provides young people with a platform to discover talents and explore fresh ideas. He said the EU’s support is part of a broader partnership aimed at equipping youth with skills for jobs and entrepreneurship, especially in the creative industries.

Minister for Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Bongani Nzima, also attended the opening ceremony. He welcomed the EU’s involvement, saying it will help young people consider careers in the arts sector.

The festival transformed the House on Fire venue into a vibrant space of youthful energy and ideas, reflecting a shared commitment to building a sustainable future.
