MBABANE – Two Eswatini high schools have brought international glory home after earning top positions at the 2024 Aqualibrium Water Competition held in South Africa.
Lamawandla High School took 3rd place, while Mkhuzweni High School landed in 6th position out of 20 schools from across the globe, proving once again that Eswatini students can compete on the world stage.
Acting Minister of Education and Training, Phila Buthelezi, congratulated both schools during a ceremony on Friday where students were awarded for their efforts. The event also served to recognise the role of the competition in building critical thinking and technical skills among learners.
Buthelezi noted the importance of engaging young minds in designing sustainable water solutions, describing the initiative as a path to grooming future scientists and engineers.
He also acknowledged the support of the Eswatini Association of Architects and Surveyors, along with the South African Association of Civil Engineers, for making the competition possible through cross-border collaboration.
Both schools were presented with awards for their performance as the nation celebrated their success in a competition focused on solving real-world water challenges through teamwork, innovation, and science.
