MANZINI – A joint task team from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy conducted a site visit on Tuesday, 14 May 2025, to assess the status of two major water and sanitation projects currently underway in the Manzini and Shiselweni regions.

The team began its inspection at the Manzini Regional Water and Sanitation Project, which is being implemented by the Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC) with support from the African Development Bank and the Government of Eswatini. The project, currently 42% complete, aims to provide safe and reliable water supply to five constituencies: Mntfongwaneni, Nhlambeni, Manzini North, Manzini South, and Mafutseni.

The visit also included a stop at the construction site of a new water treatment plant in Matsapha, a key component of the Manzini project. Once completed, the facility is expected to boost potable water supply to the wider Manzini Region.

The second leg of the tour took the team to Nhlangano, where they assessed the World Bank-funded Nhlangano Water and Sanitation Project. Also under the stewardship of EWSC, this initiative seeks to improve water access and sanitation infrastructure in the southern town and its surroundings.

The project is divided into three parts. Package 1, which involved the construction of reservoirs and pump stations, is already complete. Package 2, covering the main pipeline between Nhlangano and Zombodze, is 90% done. Meanwhile, Package 3, responsible for extending the pipeline from Zombodze to Siphambanweni, stands at 26% completion.
