Eswatini’s leading health insurance provider, Eswatini Medical Aid Fund (EswatiniMed), has swiftly responded to recent claims suggesting it is facing a financial or operational crisis, calling these accusations unfounded and part of a deliberate effort to destabilize the organization.

The rebuttal follows remarks made by certain groups that have raised doubts about the Fund’s stability. EswatiniMed’s Board of Directors, appointed following a successful Annual General Meeting on March 26, 2025, under the leadership of Chairman Sammy Dlamini, stated that after a thorough review, the Fund is in a stable and sound position.

EswatiniMed, which operates both locally and internationally, continues to meet all member claims and provide services through accredited healthcare providers. The Board has expressed concerns that these baseless allegations are linked to ongoing attempts to destabilize the organization, particularly in relation to the Ezulwini Private Hospital, a national asset that has been targeted by individuals seeking to gain control for personal interests.

Ezulwini Private Hospital was established with the goal of offering high-quality, accessible healthcare to the people of Eswatini, eliminating the need for costly medical travel to neighboring South Africa. The hospital, now a symbol of national pride, remains a key asset of EswatiniMed and is firmly intended to remain under national ownership.

The Board has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the hospital’s future and maintaining its service to the nation. Furthermore, EswatiniMed has assured members and stakeholders that all legal proceedings currently in progress are being handled through the proper channels, with the expectation that the judicial process will clarify any misunderstandings.

Management under Principal Officer Peter Simelane has also reaffirmed its focus on member satisfaction, financial prudence, and service delivery. Despite external efforts to disrupt the Fund’s operations, EswatiniMed remains committed to its mission and values of unity and accountability.
