The South African government has introduced an online platform designed to streamline the business visa recommendation process for foreign investors. The Business Visa Recommendation System (VRS), launched by the Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition (dtic), aims to improve efficiency, transparency, and accessibility for applicants.
The system replaces the previous email-based application method, allowing business owners to submit their requests for initial, extended, or permanent residence recommendations under the Immigration Act 13 of 2002. According to Acting Deputy Director-General of Investment and Spatial Industrial Development, Yunus Hoosen, the new digital platform will significantly speed up processing times and enhance user convenience.
With South Africa seeking to create a more business-friendly environment, the VRS aligns with broader e-governance initiatives focused on reducing bureaucratic delays. Officials say the platform offers a structured approach to managing applications, preventing incomplete submissions, and facilitating real-time tracking of requests. The system also provides investment-related data for planning and reporting purposes.
Applicants can now upload required documents directly, track their application status online, and receive automated notifications regarding their requests. The dtic describes the initiative as a major step toward modernizing investment facilitation in the country, reinforcing South Africa’s commitment to attracting global investors.
