Eswatini extends partial lockdown by 21 days

Mbabane: Eswatini Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini has announced that the partial lockdown has been extended by three (3) more weeks effective from today midnight (April 15,2020)

Announcing the extension of partial lock down the prime minister said, “Government has been a commanded by His Majesty King Mswati III to announce the extension of the partial lockdown in Eswatini for three more weeks starting from midnight today.

Press briefing Highlights

  • The lockdown in the country is extended for a further 3 weeks
  • Low risk non-essential services may continue operating, Ministry of Commerce still to clarify
  • Informal crossing; Screening will be intensified
  • Eswatini can now fully test for Covid-19, with the Covid-19 laboratory in Mbabane already operating, and means are being made to increase the number of laboratories especially at the Lubombo Referral Hospital
  • Government currently trying to procure ventilators and currently looking at other hospitals to increase the number of centres for Covid-19 in case the number of positive samples increase
  • Government will provide relief of up to E90 Million to businesses with a turnover of E8 million- 506 tanks have been distributed to places in the country
  • A total E47 million in kind and E70 million in cash has been raised by both Government, businesses, individuals in Eswatini and development partners.
  • Taiwan contribution to the fight of Covid-19 Eswatini
  • Four Specialist Doctors
  • Thirteen ventilators
  • 500 forehead thermometers
  • 7 infrared scanners
  • 60 000 surgical masks

Alcohol production and consumption is now regarded as high risk so it is prohibited

  • Cleaning services
  • Breakdown services
  • Hawkers
  • Car wash
  • Clothing shops (10 am – 3pm : Monday, Wednesday, Saturday)
  • Car dealerships

These are some of the non-essential services that are regarded as high risk and are to remain closed until further notice

  1. Saloons and barbershop
  2. Bars
  3. Beauty Spas
  4. Night Clubs
  5. Cinemas/theatre clubs
  6. Travel agents
  7. Auctions remain close
  8. Dobha phansi
