Mbabane: The son of dearly departed former Mbabane Swallows Management Committee Chairman Mandla Dlamini, Majaha (31) missed his father’s funeral as he is ‘locked down’ in Canada.

Mandla Dlamini, a staunch Swallows person who served as MC Chairman during the reigns of also late former bosses Bheki Simelane and Victor Gamedze succumbed to death last Tuesday after a short illness.

Painful as it is for Majaha, he did spent a few months with his father as he was in the country from January to March only to learn of Dlamini senior’s demise when he had returned to his Saskatoon base in Eastern Canada.

Dlamini was laid to rest at his parental home in Mahlanya on Saturday morning.

Canada hit a grim new milestone in its ongoing fight against the coronavirus pandemic last Thursday with its Public Health officials’ tallies showing it has now surpassed 20 000 confirmed cases of the virus. The confirmed number of cases stands at 20 657 across Canada. Of the positive cases in that country, 4 889 people have recovered. A total of 503 have died so far, including Canadians in their 20s and 30s.

The global community is grapping with the spread of the virus which has infected more than 1.4 million around the world and killed more than 80 000.

Currently, there is no vaccine and no known treatment.

As a result, countries around the world, including Canada and Eswatini, have shut down borders and implemented varying levels of domestic lockdowns for roughly one month now.

“I couldn’t make it to the funeral bro. Everything is grounded here (Canada). I have to come once things normalise a little bit,” Majaha said when contacted from Saskatoon.

He promised to come to Eswatini by November to pay his last respect to his father.

Majaha left Eswatini back in 2007 for Canada to join the University of Saskatchewan, a Canadian public research University founded on March 19, 1907. It offers more than 100 programs including graduate diplomas, master’s degrees and doctoral degree programs in humanities and social sciences, sciences, interdisciplinary and professional disciplines.

Majaha is currently working in the North American state.
