Ezulwini- The newly opened Khanyisile Hee Yeon Memorial (HYM) Clinic will be expected to operate within the country’s healthcare standards, with the Ministry of Health committing to closely monitor areas including staffing, medicines and patient treatment.
Health Minister Mduduzi Matsebula said the ministry had already been advising the clinic’s staff on primary healthcare requirements since the construction of the facility began.
He said the ministry would continue working with the clinic to ensure that its services complied with national standards, including requirements for healthcare professionals, the handling of medicines and medical supplies, as well as the use of national guidelines when diagnosing and treating patients.
Matsebula was speaking during the official opening of the facility at Ezulwini Palazzo on Thursday, shortly after His Majesty King Mswati III officially opened and toured the clinic.
The minister said the established communication between the ministry and the clinic’s leadership provided a foundation for ensuring that the facility maintained high standards of service delivery and patient safety.
He further committed the ministry to working with the clinic to ensure that patients received respectful and quality care.
The development comes as the clinic joins the growing number of healthcare facilities serving residents and businesses in the Ezulwini Valley.
Matsebula described the facility as more than a new health centre, saying it represented a partnership aimed at bringing healthcare services closer to communities and supporting the country’s pursuit of Universal Health Coverage.
He said Universal Health Coverage was centred on ensuring that people could access essential healthcare services without suffering financial hardship.
The minister also credited the Ezulwini Royal Kraal and traditional leadership for making land available at Nyonyane and supporting the development.
He said the project demonstrated that traditional leadership and modern healthcare systems could work together to improve the lives of Emaswati.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini said Government would work with the facility to ensure that it delivered maximum benefit to Emaswati.
Dlamini described the establishment of the clinic as a significant gesture of goodwill by its founders and said government recognized the importance of facilities that complemented its efforts to improve healthcare services.
“His Majesty’s government acknowledges the importance of such facilities and partnerships that complement Government’s efforts, in keeping with the Kingdom’s laws and regulations governing the sector, to improve healthcare services in the Kingdom,” he said.
The clinic’s establishment has also strengthened cooperation between Eswatini and the Republic of Korea through the Hee Yeon Memorial family and organisation, whose contribution supported the project.
The official opening was attended by Their Majesties, members of the Royal Family, Cabinet ministers, traditional leaders, Parliamentarians, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from the Republic of Korea and HYM partners, among other guests.
