New fuel prices come to effect Thursday midnight

Mbabane – Fuel prices will increase effective Thursday 7, 2022 at midnight.

According to a government statement, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy’s Principal Secretary (PS) Dorcus Dlamini, cordially informs the public that the petrol price will increase by 50c per litre whilst diesel and paraffin will increase by E1 per litre.

The statement reads in part, the new fuel prices will come into effect at midnight, Thursday, April 7, 2022 (effective Friday, April 8, 2022). The main reason for the fuel price increases is the crude oil price increase which reached an average of US$118.82 per barrel in March 2022 from an average of US$92.82 in the month of February, 2022 as a result of the disruption in the oil supply caused mainly by the recent Russian and Ukraine conflict thus putting pressure on the international fuel product prices.”

It continues to highlight that the Lilangeni/Dollar exchange rate remained high at an average of E15.07 showing slight improvement by from an average of E15.25 realised in the month of February 2021.

“It is worth mentioning that the international oil market situation of very high crude oil prices necessitated higher fuel increases locally of E2.20 per litre for petrol, E3.50 for diesel and E3.50 for paraffin, however, the government of the Kingdom of Eswatini provided funds amounting to E80 million to cushion the fuel price increases. This allowed for these marginal increases hence reducing the impact to the consumer and protecting the economy in the process,” the communique reads.

The ministry encourages the public to use fuel efficiently as the international oil markets and the Lilangeni/Dollar exchange rate remain volatile.

  • The Unleaded Petrol (ULP 95) price will increase from E18.55 per litre to E19.05 per litre
  • The Diesel (0.005%S) price will increase from E18.60 per litre to E19.60 per litre
  • The Paraffin price will increase from E13.35 per litre to E14.35 per litre
