Mbabane – MTN Eswatini has committed to work in partnership with government to enable service delivery for emaSwati.

In an exclusive interview with Independent News, Thandazile Dlamini, MTN Eswatini’s Head of Enterprise Business Unit said “Working hand in hand with the Eswatini Government, we have been able to add more services to the platform.  To date we have launched Registrar of Companies payments, and Trading and Liquor license payments. On the same platform, we have added the payment of Motor Vehicle License discs in the- bouquet of services for the convenience of our customers.”

Dlamini went on to mention that MTN Eswatini is committed to continue partnering with government in the digitisation of payment of other government services, making it easier to access them. Dlamini went on to explain that MTN will run a 468 MoMo Government Customer Education campaign on how to pay for the different services. She said this was also part of MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy in that ‘Everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life’.

“Basically, we would like our customers to queue no more. In the advent of the unfortunate Covid-19 pandemic which has introduced restrictive safety protocols, work commitments and a busy lifestyle for all of emaSwati, we wish to lessen the burden of spending extended amounts of time in queues for emaSwati who need to pay for government services.”

MTN Business’ partnership began in 2015 with the delivery of the Government mobile services platform on the *468# string code. This was a partnership borne out of alignment with Government’s E-Govt agenda. The *468#-platform was established and the first service was a tracking service for The Ministry of Home Affairs. This tracking service was for passport, travel documents and resident permits. This solution *468# string code tracking platform brought relief to EmaSwati mainly because before this service, they would travel to Mbabane after applying for any of the three services only to discover that their documents were not ready for collection. The 468-service initiated convenience, financial relief and eliminated implicated travelling costs. The service was even more critical because at that time, most of these services were still centralized at the Mbabane Home Affairs Headquarters.

The world has been digitised and MTN’s objective is to lead in delivering and enabling digital solutions for emaSwati. The MTN and Government partnership is a step forward towards digitizing solutions for emaSwati, bringing convenience and significantly reduce or eliminate associated costs such as travel attached to accessing government services.

Through digitisation and FinTech services MTN affirms their commitment to bringing services to the customers’ doorsteps by ensuring a connected life which every liSwati deserves.
